In his role as a union leader, Jason advocates for medical care and access to high-quality health coverage for all of his colleagues – both union and non-union.

He said, “My employer-provided coverage has been extremely helpful with accessing preventive care, prescription drugs and also dental and vision visits. I feel more financially secure knowing my family has access to these same benefits. With my employer-provided coverage, we know we can receive care when we need it.”

In the winter of 2021, Jason began experiencing severe foot pain and had trouble walking. Upon visiting his primary care physician, he was diagnosed with a sprain of the ligaments around the big toe joint. Commonly known as “turf toe,” the condition is associated with athletes and people regularly on their feet. “I’m on my feet all the time at work, so I needed to get this problem taken care of immediately. I’m extremely grateful that I was able to visit my physician and receive a quick diagnosis and treatment plan. I can’t imagine navigating this experience without my employer-provided coverage,” said Jason.

Jason was referred to a podiatrist by his primary care physician, who prescribed orthotics and a minor surgery to repair the injury. These remedies and treatments – which could have cost thousands of dollars without health insurance coverage – cost Jason only a routine co-pay. He said his employer-provided coverage helped him access the specialists needed to treat his injury and get him quickly back to work.
